Growing Community Through Philanthropy
What is a CAP® Community Group?

The Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy® (CAP®) designation equips advisors, nonprofit professionals, and other philanthropic advisors with the knowledge to help donors achieve their charitable goals. When professionals from the same community learn side by side as they seek the CAP® designation, their ties extend beyond their studies, enabling them to have a transformative impact on their community.
Through community groups, CAP® students and designees are working hard to make their hometowns a better place.
One such community group, led by the Omaha Community Foundation, has experienced significant results from its CAP® community group. According to Mark Weber, JD, MSFS, CLU, ChFC®, CAP®, Omaha Community Foundation’s community group facilitator, groups such as his not only improve the learning experience of members, with Omaha’s community group boasting a 100% graduation rate from the CAP® program, but have also improved their community as a connected network of professionals across the philanthropic ecosystem who can assist groups and individuals looking to make an impact.
Separately, for learners without access to a local Community Group, every CAP® course rolled out in January, April, July, and October includes structured live review sessions led by adjunct faculty via Zoom. These provide cohort interaction and Q&A support, ensuring all students have an opportunity for shared learning regardless of geography.
Listen as Mary Fischer-Nassib, CAP®, shares her experiences and talks about how her community has been changed by the presence of their group!
