Onboarding Gen Z Study
A Closer Look at the Rising Generation and Their Professional Goals in Financial Services
Within the next decade, 37% of today’s advisors are expected to retire, leaving behind a critical need for new talent.1 Gen Z is essential to bridging this gap, but they’ll need meaningful support to succeed in the industry.

Why Gen Z?
Estimates show that, to meet the demand for financial services professionals and replace talent lost to retirement and turnover, the industry will need to attract over 740,000 new hires over the next decade.2 As experienced professionals move up the ranks into vacated roles, firms and prospective newcomers — especially Gen Zers — have an enormous, mutually beneficial opportunity to refill the talent pool.
The industry needs to better understand Gen Z’s career motivations and expectations, which will, in turn, help firms attract and retain Gen Z professionals. We surveyed over 1,200 Americans ages 18 to 27 — including undergraduate college students and recent college graduates interested in financial services, as well as early-career professionals already working in the industry — about their expectations, motivations, and experiences in financial services.
The findings on the following pages offer insights firms can use to strengthen their recruiting, interviewing, and onboarding processes to effectively engage and prepare Gen Z talent for careers in financial services.
