Financial Literacy for Pre- and Current Retirees
Helping Consumers Improve Retirement Outcomes
The Retirement CourseTM is a comprehensive, noncredit program designed to enhance financial literacy with a specific focus on retirement planning. It’s thoughtfully designed and delivered by the only accredited, nonprofit higher education institution focused on financial services for nearly 100 years—The American College of Financial Services.

The Problem:
Americans are entering retirement age at a faster clip than ever. 12,000 Americans are turning 65 every day. People are living longer, meaning more people than ever are retirement age. In fact, 1 in 5 Americans will be over 65 by 2030. Yet, this growing pool of current or future retirees is under informed about important retirement topics. Only 7% scored a passing grade on The College’s 2023 Retirement Income Literacy Survey quiz! The average score on the quiz was only 31%!

The Solution:
The Retirement Course™ from The American College of Financial Services provides broad, actionable retirement education from an accredited higher education institution deeply rooted in unbiased insights that connect the textbook to your playbook!
Course Structure
The course is divided into 14 modules, covering a range of retirement topics—such as retirement psychology, long-term care considerations, health insurance and Medicare, and legacy planning—each designed to be completed in in about 30 minutes or less. Each module includes a mix of video content, handouts, text, and interactive elements to engage learners and facilitate knowledge retention. These modules are grouped into four badges, each representing a key aspect of retirement planning. Each module stands on its own and learners can take whichever they want, in whatever order they want.

Target audience:
While appropriate for any age or asset level, the course will offer learners the greatest reward if they are nearing or in retirement, and they have an asset and/or income level that requires planning complexity and situational decision-making.

Time to complete:
Modules are bite-sized, with each taking about 30 minutes to complete. It will take approximately six hours to complete the entire course for those choosing to do so.

Rewards for your work:
Learners will be more knowledgeable and motivated to engage with a competent financial professional. They also will earn shareable digital badges as they complete each section and a certificate of completion for the entire course.
